2nd Annual IIDA Cre8 design challenge

We recently participated in the 2nd Annual IIDA Cre8 design challenge benefiting CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).  As in the previous year, each design team was provided with a hardgood and softgood manufacturer to select materials and complete the garment.  This year’s theme “Fairy Tales” made for some very creative and unique garments.  Quorum Architects chose Beauty and the Beast, and we elected to take on the beast character which allowed us to pull ideas from the dark side of the fairy tale.  Our Garment Underwriters/partners for the event were Reid Cooper and Associates who represent Carnegie fabrics and Skyline Design Glass.   The military themed design was brought to life by the vivid colors and textures through the donated fabrics/tiles.  The Beast's jacket was created from upholstery and drapery fabrics, as well as woven wallcovering.    The pants were fully made out of the wallcovering.  Hand cut glass tile adorned the costume as buttons, cufflinks & miscellaneous accent pieces.  Once we received the materials we had to complete the garment in 8 days.  Friday’s fashion show was a huge success!  Thank you to our Garment Underwriters and Quorum Architects partners and co-workers for their support during the competition.  We couldn’t have done it without you!
