Global warming has me worried. Did you know that the coffee bean is in danger, yes, maybe not right now but in the future? We must drink coffee now and that coffee should be the best we can find.
As members of Fort Worth South, Inc., our shared camaraderie has given us a chance to get to know our neighborhood and its resident businesses. We had the pleasure of meeting Garold LaRue and Jimmy Story last year at our annual Fort Worth South Breakfast meeting. They are the owners of AVOCA Coffee on Magnolia. When I say this I mean they are AVOCA. The talent and patience it takes to select, roast, grind and brew a cup of coffee is definitely evident in their Magnolia habitat.
Earlier this year we were disappointed to find out that our old friends at Aduro Coffee were closing their doors. With their help, we had gone as “green” as we could with our coffee - local, organic, Fair Trade and delicious. We were spoiled! While AVOCA had just been open for a short time, we felt it would be a good partnership. We approached them about becoming their first corporate customers – they welcomed us with open arms. On Monday mornings when a new supply of coffee arrives (in sparkling Mason jars), the sound of the lid coming off the jar draws people to the wafting aroma of freshly roasted, ground coffee. All day long, different people in the office make the coffee. I consider it a company benefit - “aroma therapy”.
Side note: My Chili Cook-Off entry contained; 2-bottles of Rahr Ugly Pug and a perfectly cold brewed cup and a half of Avoca’s Peru Dark. I didn’t win this year, but, I didn’t have any of my large pot of chili left either.
