Chili Cooking Time

The cool weather is finally here and cooking chili is an official Quorum Fall tradition.  This year marked the 4th Annual Quorum Chili cook off and eight slow simmering pots filled with delicious chili were plugged in and ready to go.  The entrants were ‘White Chili’, ‘Surprize’, ‘I Have To Think About It Chili’, ‘Buffalo Chicken Chili’, ‘Chili Con Version’, ‘Borderline Chili’, ‘Just Chili’ and ‘Smoooth’.  Our own Quorum chili stewards, Kelly Wredling and Dawn Shannon, added decorations (provided by the chili cooks) to the tables as well as took care of stirring the pots to keep the identity of the cooks anonymous.

Each mouthwatering chili varied in texture and taste and ranged in ingredients from pumpkin to alligator meat; from mild to spicy hot. This year we had a panel of 4 judges with criteria which included aroma, texture, taste, aftertaste and even presentation could score votes.  The votes were carefully tallied and the winners were announced.
The winner for Best Chili went to Mabelle Ponce with her "Just Chili".  This was her second time in the running and she really “brought it”.  The Second Best Chili and Crowd Favorite went to newcomer Greg Richardson with his "Borderline Chili".  This was his first year in the running but surely won’t be his last!

Thanks to all the Chili cooks for their hearty recipes and to everyone for a great time.  We look forward to next year’s Chili Cook Off!
